The Crooked Spire at Chesterfield's St.Mary's Church
Nearby Chesterfield is well worth a visit as it boasts the largest open market in the country. Chesterfield's skyline is dominated by the famous crooked spire. Local myths maintain it was kicked by the devil or that it bent over to take a look at a particularly stunning bride. It has also been suggested that the 32 tons of lead may have had something to do with it!

The charming market town of Ashbourne is situated on the southern tip of the Peak District. Famous for clock-making, this primarily Georgian town offers a host of traditions including the well-known Royal Shrovetide Football Match.

Every year people from opposite sides of the river play against each other in a game of football with a difference. The goals post are three miles apart and needless to say the pubs in-between are as much part of the game as the football! Play kicks off at 3pm and lasts until 10pm. Other traditions of Ashbourne include carnivals, a half marathon and Christmas late night shopping.
